Edoardo Sobrino Barolo di Verduno 2021
A stunning, fully off-the-radar, family-run BAROLO, from what many insiders (including Wine Spectator) are calling the GREATEST vintage in Piemonte history! OVER $40 off!
It’s 7/11 DAY, good people — and like the ultimate convenience store — I am ALWAYS OPEN for deals on world-class, simply spectacular BAROLO…especially when we get to bring you a producer that you can’t find ANYWHERE else in the good ol’ U.S. of A.!!! 93 POINTS is on the board today, my friends, from the heralded, earth-shattering 99 POINT 2021 Piemonte vintage! The highest EVER vintage rating in the history of Wine Spectator’s coverage of the region — higher than classics like 2019, 2016, 2010, even 1996! Snagging every last bottle of 2021 Barolo, anywhere you see it, has become my de facto strategy — but this beauty, from two hillside plots just about a mile or two outside of the village of La Morra, is something new altogether…and you’re going to be THRILLED to taste it!
Surprise, surprise…our own Italian Indiana Jones — the one and only Emanuele Graetz — brought this incredible producer to our door…or rather, the opposite in fact! Ema squeezed us into a gorgeous day of Barolo discovery that also included a stop with Edoardo Sobrino’s longtime friend and vinous inspiration, ROBERTO VOERZIO — and y’all know how that all worked out!!! Roberto has set the region ablaze with his Barolos of incredible depth, and saturated, ridiculously complex Barolos…and this kissing cousin of a Barolo from Edoardo Sobrino delivers in much the same way!!!
It has been nearly 20 years since Vinous’ Grand Poobah, Antonio Galloni, called Edoardo a “small promising producer…influenced by his friends Roberto Voerzio and Piero Busso…” and like Mark Messier for the Rangers in 1994’s Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals — this promise has been DELIVERED!!! The violets! The sweetly perfumed rose petals and peonies! Oh, BABY! Such elegance and flair belies the sheer power and depth that sits just beneath the surface — where iron-born minerality, and wild, hillside herbs take root, rounding out the voluptuous core where plum, and cherries, and star-anise, cinnamon, and blood orange peel all reside in perfect domesticity. What…a…WINE!
UNDER $60 makes this a top-notch Barolo to add to your collection forthwith — yet, be advised!!! Not nearly enough for a full daily offer…so do not delay!!!
