Ty Caton Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaker's Cuvee Estate Moon Mountain District 2017
āGuess what! I got a feverā¦.and the only prescriptionā¦is more Cabernet!" ā not Bruce Dickinson
But seriously. $18?!! That should cure any ailmentā¦but FLY, ZING, skip and seesaw your way to the app or whatever ASA-dang-P becauseā¦well, you knowā¦! Cabernet like this, from the now much-coveted Moon Mountain appellation priced anything close to what weāre doing today is as rare asā¦a blue moon? A harvest moon? A blood moon?
OK. Loaded up? Sweet, good on ya.Ā
WHAT a rip-roaring deal. Bright red currants all day long, plummy, juicy goodness and pretty lavishly spicy/oaky, man we love the word LAVISH, oh lavish me with under-$20 cabernet, pleeeeaseā¦ah, sorry, packed with what I might call āgrilled vanilla beanā, cedar, ripe as sunshineĀ berries, toffee, a hint of mint and a muscley frame of mountain tannins that feels more like Mt. Veeder than Moon Mountain. This is a blend of 76% cabernet sauvignon, 13% syrah, 7% petite sirah, 4% merlot (whoa!), aged in 60% new French oakā¦and, umā¦$18. ** poof **
Ty Caton has been in the wine/vineyard biz most of his life (me too, come to think of it) and has some amazing vineyards to source from, including this coveted little patch of Moon Mountain (interesting history here) and, oh, is it already GONE? Grab it while we have it!!
